Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) is set to enhance its operational capabilities with a €40 million investment in new terminal handling equipment. A contract has been signed with Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company Limited (ZPMC) for the procurement of state-of-the-art machinery, including two Super Post Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and two Hybrid Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes. Delivery of the new equipment is scheduled for December 2025.
This strategic investment extends beyond cranes, encompassing the acquisition of additional electric yard equipment, such as electric terminal tractors. The investment also includes extensive IT system upgrades and civil works, further modernizing the terminal's infrastructure.
“The acquisition of this new equipment marks a pivotal moment in AGCT’s expansion and modernization journey,” said Emmanuel Papagiannakis, CEO of AGCT. “These advanced cranes will significantly enhance our operational efficiency, enabling faster vessel turnaround times and optimizing overall port performance. The Super Post Panamax cranes, in particular, are among the latest in their generation, allowing us to accommodate the largest vessels without any restrictions.”
In addition to these equipment upgrades, AGCT is nearing the completion of its dredging project at the terminal’s south berth, expected to be finalized by September this year. Once completed, AGCT will be able to handle two vessels simultaneously. Despite the challenges posed by ongoing construction, including limited berth availability since June 2020, AGCT has consistently grown, and this year is on track to set a new throughput record.
This latest investment underscores AGCT’s commitment to delivering top-tier port services and significantly enhancing its capacity to meet the evolving demands of the global shipping industry.
