On April 13, Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) marked an important step forward with the arrival of its first fully electric terminal tractors. These are not only the first electric tractors at AGCT, but also the first BYD terminal tractors introduced in Europe — and the first BYD electric terminal trucks within the ICTSI group.

This milestone comes after a period of close cooperation with BYD, during which AGCT tested one of their newly developed units. As one of the first terminals in Europe to work with this equipment, we were able to provide direct operational feedback, which was then used to further adapt and customize the tractors to better suit real terminal conditions. The units we have now received reflect that joint effort.

The introduction of electric tractors fits naturally into AGCT’s broader approach to sustainability. In December last year, we welcomed new hybrid RTG cranes, and the conversion of the remaining RTG fleet from diesel to hybrid is currently ongoing.

Tanja Lončar, Procurement said:
“This project was a great example of close cooperation with the supplier from the very beginning. Being part of the testing phase allowed us to contribute directly to the final design, ensuring the equipment we received is truly suited to our operational needs.”

Ratko Tatalović, Engineering added:
“From an engineering perspective, the integration of electric tractors into our fleet is an important step. We are continuously adapting our infrastructure and equipment strategy, and this development fits perfectly into our ongoing transition toward more efficient and lower-emission operations.”
