Mr. Alessandro Becce has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), company managing the container terminal in Rijeka, Croatia.

Mr. Becce has replaced Mr. Phillip Marsham, who has been AGCT’s CEO from October 2012. Mr. Becce is coming from the port of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia where he had spent the last 3 years as Chief Operating Officer at DP World’s container terminal with 1,8 million TEU throughput, coordinating a team of 1.150 employees. Before that for more than 5 years he was CEO of the container terminal in Cagliari, Italy (Contshipitalia, Eurogate). From 2004 - 2006 he was also with Contship Italia, CEO of the container terminal in La Spezia, Italy; while from 2000 – 2004 he was the president of the Port Authority Savona, Vado. He was born on July 1st 1961 in Savona (Italy), married with 2 kids.

We are confident that with his knowledge and rich experience (more than 20 years in the industry at executive positions) Mr Becce will greatly contribute to the future development of AGCT, strengthening its position as one of the strategic container ports in North Adriatic.

I am very happy to be here to witness new direct call services: Ocean 3 in particular - bringing on board 2 new shipping lines United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) and China Shipping container Line (CSCL). This is to the credit of Phillip and AGCT team for continuous efforts during past couple of years. I was very positively surprised with terminal, team, port and the city during my first days in Rijeka. I’d like to assure you and the whole port community that AGCT will continue to drive positive changes and developments in container traffic, port in whole and with special focus on land (rail) services. Every terminal/port has different stages of evolution and growth and now it is time to bring AGCT to the next level – to the benefit of whole port community, city and Croatia in general. I would also like to stress out that commitment and focus of ICSTI group on this port and traffic route remains the same and will continue - as this is a long term project (30 years) – said Alessandro Becce.

Phillip Marsham will continue the successful cooperation with International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), global group of which AGCT is also subsidiary of, by taking over management of the container terminal in Umm Qasr, Iraq - Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT).

It is more by accident than planning to be in Rijeka for my handover to Alessandro at the very same time that we are having 3 new services in the same week. Ocean 3 today with two new shipping lines as Alessandro already said, 2M on Friday with biggest vessel ever to be served at AGCT and not to forget Cosco’s butterfly service to Greece/Turkey where Rijeka is the first port of call after Piraeus. It is always nice to see efforts of AGCT team and myself being realized – still a long way to go to develop Rijeka to its full potential – I would confirm Alessandro’s statement on absolute need to develop land services to CE destinations as key factor. I’d like to thank the team, all co-workers, Luka Rijeka, PRA, City and governments for all the support and joint efforts in the past years, making our vision become reality. Next years will be crucial for the success of this project and I am counting on you to provide the same level of support to Alessandro & AGCT as you did during my stay in Rijeka. Surely I will be back, and hopefully not just as a visitor - said Phillip Marsham
