On Christmas morning, 25 December, before sunrise, the heavy-lift vessel Zhen Hua 35 dropped anchor off the coast of Rijeka, carrying two new RTG cranes for AGCT. The vessel was berthed early the next day, Boxing Day (26 December), with all mooring operations completed before 8:00 a.m.
Departing from Shanghai, China in October, Zhen Hua 35 is on a multi-stop journey delivering a total of 13 cranes to various ports. Prior to arriving in Rijeka, the vessel made calls at Tangier (Morocco) and Genoa (Italy) to deliver equipment, before reaching Rijeka just in time for Christmas—bringing “gifts” for the terminal.
These two new hybrid RTG yard cranes are part of AGCT’s broader modernization program, arriving only weeks after the installation of new quay cranes. Designed for efficient container handling in storage areas, the RTGs feature a hybrid drive system that significantly reduces fuel consumption and emissions, further supporting AGCT’s sustainability goals.
The total investment in quay cranes, RTG units, and additional terminal equipment amounts to EUR 35 million, reinforcing AGCT’s commitment as concessionaire to expand capacity and strengthen Rijeka and the Adriatic transport corridor as a key gateway to Central and Southeast Europe.
