This weekend Mr. Agus Sardjana, Indonesian Ambassador in Zagreb, and Mr. Dražen Margeta, Croatian Ambassador in Jakarta, visited the Port in Rijeka together with the leading members of international corporations for integrated logistics services in maritime transport Global Putra International Group from Jakarta. The delegation was also accompanied with the leading members of Orbico Group, a Croatian company.
The visit is a continuation of negotiations which began in April during the stay of the Croatian diplomatic and economic delegation in Indonesia. Mr. Vedran Devčić and Mr. Vlado Mezak, the Director of Port Rijeka, welcomed and greeted the delegation as hosts, along with Mr. Marko Filipović, the Deputy Mayor of Rijeka, and Miss Iva Roman, commercial coordinator at the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal.
Development projects, capacity and the benefits of the Port for the Indonesian cargo in overseas transport were presented to the distinguished guests. Mr. Mezak emphasized the benefits that Port Rijeka has in relation to the northern ports, while Mr. Devčić highlighted the importance of the terminal Škrljevo which started a capital project that will modernize this area into a functional background terminal with new facilities. He also stated that maximum efforts will be made to make Port Rijeka the most competitive input/ output port in the northern Adriatic Sea in associating countries in Europe and Southeast Asia in trade.
The Indonesian side expressed significant interest in investing and doing business in the Republic of Croatia and Ambassador Sardjana stated that the main goal is to connect the countries in Europe and South East Asia as well as the exchange and increase in transport of goods. The Indonesian delegation confirmed that Croatia's membership in the European Union is recognized as a good move because with its ideal location and excellent facilities Croatia has turned into an important traffic destination. The Indonesians' goal is to associate China and Indonesia with countries of the European Union in trade.
In their opinion the key role is in Croatia in Port Rijeka which is seen as an important naval port in this part of the world.
After the business presentation and discussion in the conference room the delegation continued on to visit the container terminal Brajdica stating their satisfaction with development projects that have been successfully completed or are in progress with concrete deadlines for implementation.
