Rijeka, 28. August 2014 – On the global ICTSI IT conference, which was held last week in San Francisco, Adriatic Gate Container Terminal has received an award for one of the three best innovations in the past 2 years for the entire ICTSI group.

On behalf of the Adriatic Gate Container Temrinal (AGCT) Mr. Sebastiano Černeka, AGCT’s IT Manager, and also ICTSI’s Deputy Regional IT Manager for Europe and Middle East has accepted the award.

ICTSI, one of the world leading companies for management of port and container terminals based in the Philippines, and the major Shareholder of the container terminal in Rijeka, once in every two years organizes a working meeting gathering IT Managers from all the terminals within the group (currently there are 29, distributed throughout world at strategic maritime intersections).

During this meetings full of presentations, workshops and lectures on IT systems within the corporation, ICTSI awards three recognitions for the most innovative IT projects in the last 2 years - of which one was awarded to AGCT. The project’s name is AGCT Navis - ZPMC PDS / RTLS TOS interface – it is an IT interface that connects the new RTG’s and the Terminal Operating System Navis. With the help of GPS (PDS = Position Detecting System) technology every movement of the crane is automatically recorded in the computer system so that at any moment the exact position of each container terminal is known (RTLS = Real Time Location Services).

This project brings a great deal of benefits to the business, some of which are:

  • increased crane productivity
  • improved inventory accuracy
  • reduced inventory discrepancies
  • higher operators satisfaction with working environment
  • safer working environment due to no need to move hands from crane controls
  • improved reliability of optimization programs such as PrimeRoute and Expert Decking since these programs rely on an accurate inventory and timely events from CHE
  • lower operational cost and higher port efficiency

This is the first project where successful IT data exchange has been between established between 2 Companies - ZPMC, one of the world's largest manufacturer of container cranes; and NAVIS TOS, the world's leading IT solution for management of container terminals. Of course, great merits of AGCT’s engineering and operations departments should also be pointed out, as without their support these successes of our IT experts would not be possible (mentioned also by Mr Černeka during the award receiving ceremony).

Let us remember that this is not the first time that Mr. Sebastiano Černeka and AGCT's IT team was honoured for innovation – during the last ICTSI IT Conference, held in Los Angeles in October 2012 AGCT was awarded for the introduction of 3G mobile network in the operating system on the whole terminal area.

Hereby a great honour has been given to AGCT which is again recognized within the profession in the world Terminal system.

Introduction of 3G mobile network in the operating system on the whole terminal area was part of implementation of the Terminal Operating System (TOS) NAVIS - usage of which provides complete IT support for Operations of the container terminal in all areas of work.

NAVIS TOS is installed on more than 200 container terminals in the world, and at AGCT was released on January 29th 2012, after only three months of implementation which normally ranges from 9 to 12 months.
